Dear Grocery Retailer…

Featured

Dear Grocery Retailer:

It has come to our attention that your store sells farmed salmon, considered harmful to both the environment and consumers’ health.

Our representatives plan to visit your store soon to protest this practice as we see this as a necessity in our campaign to publicize our position. While we will not damage food or store property, as that is not what we believe in, our activities and that of the media, may nontheless cause minor disruption to business. We will be handing out leaflets on city property near the store to among other things educate the public about this product and to warn potential customers of our protest.

There is no need to communicate with us, as we monitor all stores worldwide for sales of farmed salmon. If your store chooses to stop selling this inferior, environment-damaging product, we will of course be very happy.

Thank you.

DFO LEAK SPELLS TROUBLE FOR FISHERIES MANAGEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

> DFO LEAK SPELLS TROUBLE FOR FISHERIES MANAGEMENT
>
> OTTAWA – Today in Question Period, NDP Fisheries and Oceans critic Fin Donnelly questioned the Minister on plans to make sweeping changes to section 35 of the Fisheries Act, essentially stripping habitat protection out of the legislation.
>
> According to a leaked document released by a former DFO employee, the Harper government may be planning to dilute the habitat protection provisions of the Fisheries Act. The Conservatives may delete habitat protection from Section 35(1) of the Act. According to the source, they plan to ram this change through using the Budget Omnibus bill.
>
> “At a time when the government should strengthen habitat protection, the Conservatives plan to gut one of the strongest environmental laws in the country,” said Donnelly. “These changes will set Canada back decades.“
>
> “The Conservative government is systematically dismantling environmental protection and regulation,” said Donnelly. “By eliminating provisions to protect fish habitat, they can push through their agenda of pipelines, oil super tankers, mega mines and other projects that harm the environment.”
>
> “With the stroke of a pen, this government could wipe out decades of progress and condemn future generations to clean up the mess they’re making. It’s reprehensible.”

Does the Government care about Salmon anymore?

Letter from Otto Langer..

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen in the Media, Elected Offices, ENGOs, First Nations, Fishery Groups:

Attached is a PRESS RELEASE on a very urgent matter. I have received a leaked document originating from the political level in the Harper government that indicates that Cabinet is planning to water down the habitat protection provisions of the Canada Fisheries Act by deleting habitat from Section 35(1) of the Act i.e. the section dedicated to protect fish habitat across Canada.

I believe this is of worthy your interest in that it has comes from a reliable source in Ottawa and it fits into the Harper government agenda of watering down our overall approach to protect our environment at a time in human history that we should be doing a better job in protecting our environment for future generations in the face of ongoing and relentless industrial and human pressures on our ecosystems that make life possible on this planet.

To make matters worse, I am informed that this amendment to the Fisheries Act will not be made available for consultation  and it is to be slipped through Parliament by tagging it onto the Budget Omnibus Bill that is due by the end of the month.

I have added a short bibliography of my qualification so that you can see that I have some expertise in this area and I should not be labeled an ‘eco-terrorist’ or something else of this sort as as been the pattern over recent weeks when you challenge the Harper government’s undermining of the health of our environment.

Ricky Wild Salmon Warrior Spirit, swims on

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rick Lavallie earlier this month. Ricky, as he was known to many in the Vancouver, continually blessed us with his musical talent, storytelling and his genuine and caring heart. Ricky was very active in many social and environmental justice movements in Vancouver for many years; whether it was residential schools, the downtown eastside, anti-olympics, wild salmon and oil-tankers he lead with his creative talent in raising people’s consciousness. We will miss his live musical performances and radiant personality on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery, but his spirit lives with many of us forever.

Thank you Ricky, we love you and will miss you.
